The Zambia United Capital 300,000-ton/year fertilizer plant project is located in southeastern Zambia and is invested by BOFFAR EQUIPMENT ZAMBIA LIMITED. A total of 1,495 pile foundations with a diameter of 800mm were completed for this project.
Due to the presence of karst development in certain areas of the site, where fully filled karst caves contained loose, dry, and collapsible gravelly soil, the construction team adopted a specialized approach. This involved repeated backfilling with clay and coordinated drilling and compaction using rigs to stabilize the soil and form stable borehole walls in the karst zones. The project utilized "clamp-type casing" technology, which streamlined operations by simplifying assembly, disassembly, and installation. This method significantly reduced labor requirements, shortened construction timelines, and enhanced overall efficiency, ultimately lowering costs.
The test piles commenced on August 25, 2023, and were completed by August 28, 2023. Construction of the main piles began on October 5, 2023, and concluded on July 15, 2024, spanning a total duration of 325 days. Third-party inspection confirmed a 100% pass rate for all piles. Throughout the construction phase, the project received consistent praise from both technical and management teams for its exemplary quality control, safety protocols, and adherence to schedules.
